ADELINE is designed out of line by intention, not accident.
At its core, the brand is about individuality. It’s for people who don’t quite fit the mold and aren’t interested in forcing themselves into one. ADELINE lives between opposites: structure and chaos, familiarity and surprise, comfort and edge. That tension is where the work begins.
I approach footwear the way I approach architecture, at a human scale. Each design starts with something recognizable, then shifts just enough to create emotion, narrative, and a moment of pause. The goal isn’t shock, but thoughtful design that invites curiosity and rewards a second look.
Process matters as much as outcome. Exploration, experimentation, and learning through making aren’t side effects of the work, they are the work. Every shoe carries traces of risk, intention, and the questions asked along the way. That out of line mindset extends beyond the designs themselves. ADELINE doesn’t follow traditional seasonal collections. Instead, we create individual constructs, standalone pieces designed to resonate on multiple levels and presented in ways that feel personal and unexpected.
The intention is to reframe how we think about shoes. They’ve long been treated as accessories, but what if they were the starting point? What if everything else followed?
Rooted in more than fifteen years of designing immersive environments and live experiences, I bring principles of connection, storytelling, and engagement into footwear. Clients are invited into the process with openness and trust. It’s collaborative, curious, and intentionally human. It’s a conversation, not a transaction.
Ultimately, ADELINE stands for confidence without conformity. The shoes act as invisible capes. Pieces that don’t ask you to blend in, but give you permission to show up exactly as you are. Not louder, not safer, just more yourself.
My path here hasn’t been linear, and I’ve stopped trying to make it one. I trust curiosity, follow moments that feel slightly uncomfortable, and keep moving even when the next step isn’t fully clear. Everything meaningful I’ve built has come from that place.
Out of line isn’t where I ended up. It’s where I chose to begin.
I’m Nicholas Hixon—founder and creative force behind ADELINE.
